MISSION CONTROL WOULD LIKE TO INTRODUCE YOU TO
ON A MISSION FOR THE MISSION CHARITY FOUNDATION
The ON A MISSION FOR THE MISSION charity was established in 2008 by Willie Milligan with the aim of making a positive impact. All funds raised are dedicated to supporting the Downtown Mission Food Bank in providing food to those in need.
The annual ride, which takes place on the last Sunday in August, started at the Windsor Downtown Mission church on Victoria Ave. It followed a route with several stops and concluded at Colchester Bar and Grill in Colchester. Raffles are held upon arrival, accompanied by a dinner.
After the first year, Patrick Frenchy Aligard and George Winney took over, and started the weekly bike night leading up to the annual ride. They successfully managed this for nine years until George fell ill and the workload became too much for one person. Frenchy then approached the Sober Sons Motorcycle Club to assume responsibility. The annual funds raised had reached $10k/year.
Sober Sons took charge and, despite the challenges posed by COVID closures and restrictions, managed to expand the ride and bike night with a larger group. Due to logistical reasons, the ride had to be relocated from Windsor to Lakeshore, with no stops along the way. It became a one-hour ride through Essex County, culminating at Colchester, where a steak dinner and raffles were provided. Annual income had now increased to just over $20k/year.
After a successful four-year run, the club disbanded, and Shaun Fathers took over the reins to continue the mission. Shaun enlisted the support of several friends and supporters of the Mission Ride/Bike nights, forming a group of eight individuals known as the Mission Control Board. They held elections and carried on the work of their predecessors. The year now begins in January by incorporating the annual biker breakfast, which has been running for over 20 years. The weekly bike night runs from the first Wednesday in May to the last Wednesday in September. The MISSION RIDE, still held on the last Sunday in August, has returned to Windsor as its starting point. In its first year under new leadership, over $30k was raised, with $25,686 donated to the Foodbank.
As of February 2024, Mission Control added new members to bring our total to 10 board members. We also started the process to register as a CHARITABLE FOUNDATION. On June 14, 2024 the process had come to an end, we were granted the honor of becoming a CHARITABLE FOUNDATION (79504 6028 RR0001)
